Always Soul Wholeness
Paula Whang-Ramos

"The cost of surrender is relinquishing the false sense of a separate self. It requires giving up the wrong idea of who we think we are."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, p. 50

Who do you think you are?  This question could be asked when someone thinks we are stepping beyond the limits of our expected roles. Who do we think we are to have that dream, that goal, or the audacity to believe in ourselves and what is possible for our lives? And yet, as we mature, we realize that we are more than family roles, various jobs, and social titles. While we may love these roles, they do not sufficiently define the depth, breadth, wonder, and wholeness of who we are.

As we mature spiritually, we outgrow the misperception that we are the physical body/mind. We realize that we are much more than the mind with all its opinions, memories, and judgments; the physical body with all its abilities and limitations; and the social roles and financial records we have acquired. We learn to live into the soul freedom of our essential, eternal wholeness, as an individualized expression of the Source of Wholeness. In so doing, we can thrive in the spiritual space of divine possibility where our soul dreams can be realized in our lives, now. Because soul wholeness is who we’ve always been, and who we will ever be.

In The Flow Of Grace
Paula Whang-Ramos

"Obstacles become more difficult to deal with if we see them as permanent and give them a solidity that they do not have."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Jewel of Abundance, p. 166

The dictionary defines an obstacle as “something that impedes progress or achievement". In truth, that which the mind perceives to be an "obstacle", is typically an unanticipated and/or undesired change to which the limited thinking mind does not know how to respond. Unprepared or unwilling to deal with a circumstance that thwarts its desires, the mind may then label that circumstance as a permanent barrier to a fulfilling life.

Conversely as spiritual practice, we realize the impermanence of all thoughts, emotions, and memories, including those that label circumstances as "obstacles". Perceived obstacles can be viewed as growing edges to mature and live more deeply from our essential wholeness, even in the face of unexpected change. Like the river gracefully flowing around the rocks and boulders in its path, we learn to remain in the flow of our innate wholeness, and we do not let rocky changes define who we are. In this way, obstacles no longer become barriers to struggle against, but gentle spiritual redirections into the permanent peace, love, and wisdom of our soul wholeness that remains ever steadfast beneath the ever-changing thoughts of the mind.

Anchored In Wholeness
Paula Whang-Ramos

"Be anchored in your innate wholeness. That anchoring allows us to remain centered when powerful waves of change are moving through our life."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Jewel of Abundance, pg. 182-183

When our lives are proceeding as planned, we can get carried away in the mind's joy when its desires are fulfilled. When we are faced with life challenges, we can get carried away in the mind's fear and reactivity to unexpected or undesired change. In both circumstances, we can increase our suffering by following the mind's mistaken belief that we are whole when the mind is happy, and we are broken when the mind is not happy.

As we mature in Yoga, we realize that the mind and all of its reactions, do not define the truth of what we are. Instead, we learn to recognize the mind's happy and fear-based reactions as an inner call to return to the true Self, our indwelling Wholeness. We redirect our attention and awareness into the indwelling Wholeness that remains UNchanged in the presence of all changing life circumstances. We are restored in the direct experience of our Wholeness that is stronger and more lasting than any changing thoughts, emotions, and reactions. And the best news is that this unchanging Wholeness indwells us all, right now. This means that we can all learn to return and live in our unchanging peace, love, wisdom, and joy of the true soul Self - in this lifetime!

Faith. Belief. Surrender.
Paula Whang-Ramos

"When we hold a vision of possibility, we do not know how it will come to be; we just know that it will come to be. We take the leap.”
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O’Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, p. 261

How do we hold a vision of possibility? We can begin by living into the spiritual qualities of faith, belief, and surrender as part of our daily spiritual practice.

We have faith in the influential actions of divine grace at work in our lives right now, supporting the highest and best good of all. We support that faith with purposeful and uplifting thoughts, words, and actions. We believe in the limitless, eternal Source of life that is the core of our being, more powerful than the ego’s stories and fears. We surrender into that divine support and what is being asked of us in the moment. Instead of fighting life, we relinquish self-will and live life as a great bliss adventure.

Faith. Belief. Surrender. We hold in our heart and soul the certainty that divine Spirit is supporting us right where we are. And, we take a leap, or even just one step, into the divine possibility that our lives are already peaceful, love overflowing, wisdom guided, and divinely blessed - right now.

“If anything disturbs your peace, practice having faith that divine grace is already actively at work restoring wholeness and well-being.

Then make any necessary adjustments in harmony with that insight.”
