Live From The Unlimited Soul
Paula Whang-Ramos
“The soul is not mind.”
~Mr. Roy Eugene Davis, Life Surrendered In God: The Kriya Yoga Way Of Soul Liberation, 1995, pg. 213.
I love the power and wisdom in Mr. Davis' inspirational quote. This teaching simultaneously empowers the soul and confuses the mind. When we live at the level of the mind, we may believe that we are all of its stories, experiences, limitations, emotions, perceptions, opinions, and reactions. We do not recognize these mental processes as filters that can distort deeper truths within ourselves. It is like viewing our image through a shattered mirror. If we don’t understand that the broken mirror is a distorted reflection of ourselves, then we can wrongly believe that distorted image to accurately reveal what we think we are. We fail to realize that it is the mind/mirror instrument that is distorted and not our essential Self.
Conversely, the view of life from the soul is one of Wholeness as individual expressions of the power, presence, and wisdom of the Source of Wholeness. This Source is not harmed, threatened, reduced, or affected by our mental filters. In the face of our most challenging life circumstances, at our core, we remain ever Whole, eternally blessed, unconditionally loved, and courageously empowered by the One Source that empowers all of life and beyond. When we learn to live from the soul, instead of the mind, then a deeper wisdom, clarity, and even peace can be directly experienced – even through the most difficult life experiences. No matter how broken our mind mirrors may seem, our soul and Source remain whole and strong. The soul is not mind. And aren’t we grateful that this is so? OM. Peace. Amen.

The Wisdom Within
Paula Whang-Ramos
“Do not desire too much higher knowledge until you have mastered what you already know by demonstrating it in your personal life…
Higher knowledge is not to be acquired in the chaos of the outer sense-stimulated world … Cultivate your interior life.”
Mr. Roy Eugene Davis, Life Surrendered In God, 1995, P175
Do you recall our school days when teachers would give us an inordinate amount of information to study and retain? We would “cram” as much of it into our minds as we could, without more deeply considering its relevance in our lives. We may have even come to believe that cramming more information than we could ever actually use was the best way to learn. And to live. Yikes.
In spiritual study, we don’t cram, overwhelm or rush through teachings offered by our Teachers and our texts. Instead, we take the time to listen into those teachings that inwardly touch us, as insight, inspiration, and even confusion. Perhaps it is an inspiring word or phrase that stays with us after a class has ended. Or, maybe it is a passage in a spiritual text that keeps repeating itself within us, even though we have no idea what the passage means.
We accept that teaching as a gift to be slowly unwrapped in meditative reflection as we learn to use spiritual teachings to polish our inner mirror of Truth. And, then we test what we are studying in the laboratory of our daily lives. To the best of our ability, we live that teaching. No longer relying solely on someone else’s description of it, we learn to inwardly access and live from the divine wisdom reflected in the gift. And we allow the wisdom revealed from this inner exploration to open us into the joy, peace, and clarity of the true Self!

The Divine Potential
Paula Whang-Ramos
“With courage comes divine possibility.”
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O’Brian, CSE Daily Inspiration 03/07/2023
Yogic teachings say that we all have the same, abundant divine potential to awaken and to live from our innate peace, love, wisdom, and wholeness – in this lifetime. One of us does not have more potential than another. But here’s what I realized. Divine potential, and the realization of that potential in our lives, are not the same things.
It's like buying a package of flower seeds. Within that package is the potential for several plants to grow. All the packages are filled with the same potential. We purchase these packages in the hope that beautiful flowers will fill our gardens. However, the seeds will produce nothing as long as they remain sealed in their package. We have to work to support these seeds to root, sprout, grow, and produce their gorgeous flowers. With our intentional actions and grace, divine potential can be realized in our beautiful gardens!
The realization of divine potential in our own lives is like those packaged seeds. Until we exert intentional energy and action towards the transformation of that divine potential in our own lives, we have not fully blossomed into all we can be. Yes, the struggle of a seed to break through its hard shell and navigate its way through the darkness of dirt toward the light can be a challenging journey. Like those seeds, we can call on inner strength and courage to live beyond perceived limitations in our lives. And, in the garden of divine grace, our lives can also blossom into the peace, love, and wholeness that we all seek and deserve – in this lifetime.

Practice Is Progress
Paula Whang-Ramos
"The soul unfettered by mental conflicts is naturally curious, happy, innovative, and possessed of a drive toward fulfillment."
~Roy Eugene Davis, Life Surrendered in God (1995), pg.207
Newcomers to meditation often ask how they will know if they are making progress in their practice. Keeping the commitment to sit every day, studying ancient practices with an experienced Teacher, and opening into the Wholeness that indwells us all are all good measures of progress.
We can also experience progress in our meditation practice based on changes in our daily life. Where we used to be critical and fearful, we may be more open and happy. Perhaps we feel more appreciation and wonder for small graces that we previously ignored, like a beautiful garden blooming. Maybe we are more patient and relaxed in situations that were previously stressful for us. And where we used to be more emotionally reactive, we may find ourselves pausing and taking a silent calming breath instead.
Each day, our sitting practice provides repeated opportunities to quiet the mind so the peace of the soul can bless all aspects of our lives with more openness, joy, gratitude, patience, and calmness. Living from these soul qualities can even help us be more receptive to deeper divine possibilities and fulfillment in our lives. But don’t take my word for it. Meditate deeply every day and watch what happens in your own life.
