Living Our Practice
Paula Whang-Ramos
"If we do not divorce our spiritual self-inquiry from our daily life and responsibilities,
we discover every situation can be a book of life from which we may study and learn."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Living For The Sake Of The Soul, p. 10
Our reactions to current circumstances, family dynamics, and other relationships can create fertile ground for spiritual self-inquiry. The circumstances that arise from these interactions are grist for the spiritual mill. We can practice spiritual awareness in these relationships and situations, see where we are off track, and make amends and course corrections.
Scripture study, meditation, prayer, and living in harmony with the teachings are essential to our spiritual practice. When we integrate this learning into the context of our daily lives, our practice becomes more than an intellectual activity. Instead, it can empower us to navigate life's challenges with resilience and grace as we answer the call to live from the joy, peace, and wisdom of the soul.

In The Flow Of Grace
Paula Whang-Ramos
"Discernment often requires the willingness to actively wait with faith for clarity. Faith is our ability to wait
with positive expectation of revelation. Faith holds the time of not knowing as a fisherman holds his line."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Living For The Sake Of The Soul, p. 20
In a world that is busy and fast-paced, our spiritual practice offers another course of action. Instead of reacting to every circumstance and comment, we can remember that "no response is a response". And we can stop, take a breath, and allow the mind to calm down. When the mind is quiet, it can more competently help us discriminate between impulsively reacting and intelligently responding to our life circumstances.
As part of our spiritual practice, it is also useful to listen and follow divine timing into the slower flow of grace that offers the peace, clarity, and joy we really seek. Again and again, we can choose to stop chasing the impulsive timeline of the impatient ego that only seeks its own immediate gratification. Through intelligent responding and intentional patience, we can live into divine possibilities that can bless even the busiest life with deep clarity, joy, gratitude, and love.

The Power Of Divine Remembrance
Paula Whang-Ramos
"Let the truth of your being meet the truth of another... Behold the Divine in all people and in all situations."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Living For The Sake Of The Soul, p. 3
Ancient Yogic philosophy reminds us that we all emanate from a single Source of wholeness. Like the Source, our true nature is whole, peaceful, and wise - all the time, everywhere, no matter what. Even when we forget and mistakenly believe that we are the ever-changing, temporary mind/body with all its limitations, our true nature remains ever unrestricted by time, circumstance, gravity, history, and all earthly experiences. This philosophy of our essential wholeness applies to everyone and every situation, including those with whom we may disagree.
When we experience unrest from associating with people or situations that scare us, our practice is not to change the other person. Instead, our spiritual practice is to change our consciousness. We use the ancient practices of Kriya Yoga to inwardly turn our outward flowing awareness, attention, and energy. We intentionally lift our awareness into higher levels of consciousness where we can directly experience the Source of the peace, love, and wisdom that sees beyond the temporary into the eternal - within us all. Yes, it takes steadfast spiritual practice to see beyond apparent differences into the Source of Oneness that waits to be realized by us. And this journey into our divine remembrance can offer the deepest fulfillment, healing, and reconciliation within and between us all.

Pause, Listen, Follow
Paula Whang-Ramos
"Divine guidance rarely specifies what we should do. Instead, it comes as peace. It comes as love.
It comes as truth. It comes bearing our divine nature itself."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Living For The Sake Of The Soul, p. 37
Sometimes, it can be difficult to determine whether our inner guidance comes from the ego or the soul. Our true soul nature is peace, love, and truth, and so too is divine guidance. Divine guidance has a patience that arises from the depths of our inner wisdom, and an expansive hope that arises from the remembrance of divine possibility. Divine guidance or intuition arises quietly as a gentle nudge, rather than an urgent command to “do” something.
Our daily meditation practice helps us quiet the mind, so we can hear the soul inspiring, not demanding, the next step that serves the highest good of all. When we pause in meditative stillness, we can hear the still small voice of peace, love, and truth encouraging us from within. Pause, listen, then follow.
