Finding Our Way Back To Peace

Paula Whang-Ramos

“Have you heard this with concentrated attention?
Have your ignorance and delusion been banished?”

~Bhagavad Gita 18:72

This Tuesday we offer our gratitude to the Teachers and the teachings of The Bhagavad Gita as we conclude our yearlong study of this foundational Yogic text. The Gita is the universal story of our spiritual awakening into our essential wholeness. At the conclusion of this story, Divine Wisdom asks the spiritual seeker if he has developed the spiritual maturity to wisely face the life challenges that previously terrified him. Isn’t this a good question for us to contemplate in our own lives right now?

How do we learn to quiet the mind so we can hear divine wisdom within ourselves? What spiritually conscious living practices can help banish ignorance and delusion in our own lives? How can we find our way back to peace and joy again?

Join us in September when we begin our yearlong study of The Yoga Sutras, another foundational Yoga text. The Yoga Sutras are based on the most ancient teachings on Yoga and meditation in the history of the world. They provide very practical teachings on how to meditate, how to recognize and remediate habits that promote our ignorance and delusion, and how to access and live from our essential wholeness – in this lifetime. Experienced students and newcomers to The Yoga Sutras are all welcome.

The Power Of Superconscious Meditation

Paula Whang-Ramos

“The primary way we disengage from the domination of ego and the suffering it brings

is to see it for what it is by increasing the light of awareness through daily superconscious meditation.”
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O’Brian, CSE Daily Inspiration 08/19/2022

This month, the BLC Tuesday afternoon meditation group will conclude our yearlong study of The Bhagavad Gita, one of the foundational texts in our tradition of Kriya Yoga. The Gita is described as an inner dialogue between Arjuna, who represents our spiritual journey into our divine wholeness, and Krishna, who represents the indwelling divine wisdom that reveals soul freedom from the tyranny of the mind. The way in which Arjuna removes his mental obstacles and reveals his indwelling divine wisdom is through the practice of superconscious meditation.

This September, all are welcome to join BLC's Tuesday afternoon meditation and study group as we begin our yearlong study of The Yoga Sutras. These ancient spiritual and very practical teachings on meditation and yoga answer questions such as: What is superconscious meditation? How do we practice it? How can superconscious meditation positively impact our lives right now? How are superconscious meditation and Yoga related? How will these practices empower my Self- and God-realization in this lifetime? Join us for a time of superconscious meditation and contemplative study as we open into the indwelling divine wisdom that waits to be heard by us.

Wisdom Guided Will

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Our direction in life is set by our power to choose.
Let wisdom guide your will."

~ Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian

Ancient yogic teachings remind us of the divine power that enlivens our thoughts, words, and actions. And, we are blessed with the power to choose which thoughts, words, and actions we will use to express our lives. The choices we make, consciously and unconsciously, impact the direction of our lives and the footprint we leave on all life. Infused with divine power, we are gifted with the opportunity to use our presence to bless, support, and offer gratitude for life.

In wisdom-guided will, we realize that we are not powerless victims of unexpected change. Even during challenging times, we can choose to sit in silent meditation and wait for the still small voice within to inspire us into the highest way and deepest peace. When our choices are guided by this Source of power, we learn to more intentionally use our thoughts, words, and actions to accept, grow and heal through all earthly circumstances. Our daily periods of silence and meditation can help us consciously cultivate and generously reflect peace, hope, and wholeness within ourselves and for all life.

The Clearest Spiritual Vision

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Master found no insuperable obstacle to the mergence of human and Divine.
No such barrier exists, I came to understand, save in man's spiritual unadventurousness."

~Paramahansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi (1969), p. 121

Paramahansa Yogananda shares this beautiful description of his Spiritual Teacher, Sri Yukteswar, and offers the spiritual teaching of Oneness, where there is no separation between our spiritual life and daily life. There is only One Life, expressing Its power, presence, and wisdom through us all. How can we experience this Oneness given the perceived division we may witness in our daily lives?

This question reminds me of the popular western saying, "Seeing is believing." It means that we will believe something is true when we personally witness it for ourselves. When we have externally based scientific proof of this thing's existence or effectiveness, then we will believe it.

From the spiritual perspective, a more relevant contemplation is, "Believing is seeing."Consider the scientist who has a theory for which no scientific proof yet exists. Inspired with only her belief, she composes a rigorous research study, to realize her theory's accuracy. Absent worldly proof, even scientific inquiry begins with a belief of something yet to be seen.

Like that scientist, it takes courage for us to seek what has yet to be revealed in our daily lives. We can begin with the belief that "There is an enlivening power that nurtures the universe and we can learn to cooperate with it", as Mr. Roy Eugene Davis reminds us. Next, we refine our inner vision and hearing by intentionally looking and listening for ways in which this Divine Power shows up in our lives. When we actively live into our Soul’s vision beyond the limitations of the mind, we become spiritual adventurers into divine possibilities waiting to bless our lives right now!
